Apple covered in snow on the tree in Sano near the snow monkeys of Japan

A very fluffy 6cm top up and a moment to appreciate the little things

Overnight just 6 centimeters of snow topped up the storm bringing the total season snow fall to 46cm's.

Today is a lovely day to appreciate the little things that make Japan so special and driving through the apple orchards of which the Nagano area is famous you see many of those beautiful little things. The things you see change with the season but one of my favourite is snow on the late season apple harvest. In Nagano some of the apples are allowed to ripen on the tree into the start of the winter. They go a special type of sweet. You can tell an apple that has been allowed to tree ripen into the snow because the centre of it will have translucent areas. These are my favourite apples of all.

Temperature today is -3 degrees C at Snowball and there is not a breath of wind. More snow forecast for Monday and then Friday.

Pic today is snow on a Nagano apple right near lovely Yukimi, our traditional tea house and residence near the snow monkeys...
